Program Overview
As an MSK-MSO Fellow, you'll undergo meticulous, hands-on training from our experienced neurosurgeons, pain management physicians and neurosurgical nurse practitioners. The MSK-MSO Neurosurgery and Pain Management Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner Fellowship program has a unified mission.
We seek to provide our Fellows with a clinically rigorous, academically challenging environment. Here, they develop the knowledge base and on-the-job training required to become elite neurosurgical/spine surgery and pain management physician assistants or nurse practitioners. Upon completion of the program, our Fellows are equipped to deliver the highest level of comprehensive care for neurosurgical and pain management patients, and they can anticipate competitive compensation in the workplace.
This full-time fellowship spans 24 months and comprises both didactic and clinical components. Fellows can expect to dedicate 40-60 weekly hours to operative and clinical-based work. We aim for our Fellows to engage with 800 in-clinic and 500 in-hospital patients and assist in 300 surgeries and procedures annually.

After graduating from this Fellowship, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from Musculoskeletal Health Partners, MSO. Additionally, we will assist you in securing employment as a neurosurgical and/or pain management physician assistant or nurse practitioner.
Stipend
The MSK-MSO Neurosurgery and pain management Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner Fellowship offers an annual compensation of $130,000 to $200,000, depending on the Fellow and how much work they are willing to take on. The Fellow will be paid to you in biweekly installments over the course of 24 months. Additionally, there will be an on-call stipend for taking calls with neurosurgeons at our affiliated hospitals. With the call stipend, a percentage of collections bonuses, and other sources of incentivized income, the total compensation is expected to exceed $130,000 in the first year and $150,000 in the second year.
Living Expenses
Living expenses, including transportation, housing, and meals, are the responsibility of the Fellow.
The neurosurgeons at SDN and SBNS and the pain management physician at BLPM will oversee the MSK-MSO Neurosurgery and pain management Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner.

This Fellowship is offered by private practice physicians who are not affiliated with any academic institution. It is a collaboration of SDNeurosurgery, South Bay Neurosurgery, and Back2Life Pain Management practices.
This Fellowship has a rolling admission process. A Fellow can be accepted at any time throughout the year, provided there is space available for a new Fellow.
Yes, this is a full-time position.
The program accommodates between 1 to 4 Fellows at any given time.
It is a 24-month program.
Yes, graduating Fellows may be offered a Faculty position in the Fellowship, depending on their performance during the program.
Yes, in several of our hospitals, an NP cannot assist in the OR without this. This is not required for Physician Assistants (PA). If accepted into the Fellowship, the NP should enroll in any available RNFA program. as soon as possible. The NP can start with the Fellowship as an RNFA student and obtain the certificate once enough hours are acquired in the OR within the Fellowship.
Yes, the Fellowship will reimburse for RNFA course as long as the Fellow completes the program. The fellowship will also cover the cost of DEA certification, hospital privileges and dues, etc. as long as the Fellow completes the program.
No, the Fellowship is a salaried position. As such all vacation days are not paid time off.
The Fellowship is a two-year commitment. However, the contracts will be one year and renewable for another year if the Fellow performs well in the first year.
